Our Chairman, Peter Hammond, was interviewed on the East Midlands Today programme. He was talking about the history of the former Town Arms public house, Trent Bridge, which is being refurbished at the present time. The new owners hope that the restaurant will be opening in April.

New deposit in Nottinghamshire Archives:
'Artificial collection' (7606).
The detail reads 'Add. Dep.: miscellaneous photographs, plan of proposed [? civic] development on Central Avenue, West Bridgford and poster concerning the Creation of Rushcliffe B.C.' covering the period 1950s-1974 and describted as '5 items'.

Looking forward to a very interesting talk by Adrian Henstock on ' Coaching Days - tollroads of Nottinghamshire'. He will be at the Sir Julien Cahn Pavilion, West Park, Loughborough Road, on Friday 6 November starting at 7.30pm.

This is the second in the 'transport' series of talks.

Another Successful Meeting

What a good start to the Winter Talks season. 80 members and guests met at the Sir Julien Cahn Pavilion, West Park last Friday to hear and see Nigel Lowey's presentation on St Pancras Station and hotel, London.

Why the station was built in that difficult area, through the period of British Rail ownership to the recent refurbishment which was completed on time. If you have spare time in London just visit the station and see for yourself.

Thank you Sir John Betjeman for saving this fantastic building.

"In May members enjoyed the trip to Southwell, and the Workhouse on a gloriously sunny day.

Most had not been to the Workhouse before which is walking distance from the town as some members discovered when they fancied a cup of tea and cake before the official Bleasby tea.

September found a coach load of members visiting Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire which is near where the 617 Squadron (The Dambusters) were stationed at Scampton Airfield.

There is a large memorial to members of the Squadron just on the main street in Woodhall Spa, near the turn to Pettwood Hotel which contains memorabilia of the Squadron.

Next stop, Horncastle with its two rivers, the Bain and the Waring, which flooded in 2007 causing great problems to the Tesco store. The Information area in the local library had brochures on historic walks, the antique shop trail, etc in the town. A wonderful second hand book shop.

Last stop, was Tattershall Castle, which, as it was the Heritage Open Weekend, was free to non-National Trust Members. The restored 15th century brick castle looked good in the sunshine. Fine views across the countryside from the top of the Castle. There is a splendid Perpendicular Church, once collegiate, with a stone screen, brasses and old glass. There are some almshouses in the churchyard. Members of the local community were serving tea and cakes".
